IAMSCU was founded in 1991 as a global network of Methodist-related primary and secondary schools, colleges, theological seminaries, and universities in Africa, Asia Pacific, Europe, and Eurasia, Latin American and the Caribbean, and North America. IAMSCU started with 20 institutions representing Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, and North America, but it grew to include more than 1,046 institutions in nearly 80 countries and 5 continents. With recent closures and disaffiliations, the network now comprises 964 institutions. At its International Conference held in 2023 at Kingswood School, Southlands College, and Wesley House, in England, the IAMSCU Board of Directors decided to give more attention to primary and secondary education, and the association has reached out to more than 400 primary and secondary schools in the Global South which are not yet related to IAMSCU. IAMSCU connects educational institutions in the Wesleyan, Methodist, United, and Uniting traditions which are officially recognized by the World Methodist Council (WMC).
