IAMSCU Executive Committee has Virtual Meeting to discuss Plans for 2025

The IAMSCU Executive Committee met on November 19, 2024, to evaluate IAMSCU’s activities in 2024 and plan the next steps in the life of the association in 2025. The following officers are members of the IAMSCU Executive Committee:

  • Adrianna Murriello (Argentina), President
  • Christopher Stephens (England), Vice President
  • Tom Wolfe (USA), Immediate Past President
  • Amos Nascimento (Brazil/USA), Executive Secretary-Treasurer
  • Roland Fernandes (USA), GBHEM/GBGM General Secretary
  • Hilde Marie Movafagh (Norway), Member At-large
  • Bishop Mande Muyombo (Democratic Republic of Congo), Member At-large

During the meeting, Adriana Murriello affirmed that 2024 was a very busy year for IAMSCU. She evaluated this as good for the association, but there was a need for some time to catch up. She also thought it was important to welcome Roland Fernandes in the leadership of IAMSCU and use thi opportunity to learn more about the work and alignment between the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry (GBHEM) and the General Board of Global Ministries (GBGM).

Murriello also informed the Executive Committee members that after the IAMSCU International Meeting in the context of the World Methodist Council (WMC), she was contacted by many institutions around the world which have expressed their intent to affiliate with IAMSCU, including two from Australia, one from India, and one from Fiji. She also reported that the Universidad Madero (UMAD) in Mexico expressed interest in rejoining MISEN after some staff changes at their institution. Finally, she proposed that increasing communications should be seen as a priority.

Continuing to address many other important issues, the members of the IAMSCU Executive Committee discussed the GBHEM-GBGM alignment process, evaluated various events (Oxford Institute, IAMSCU Board of Directors meeting, IAMSCU International Event, and participation in the Education Committee sessions during the World Methodist Conference), and discussed the outcomes of various conferences (APAMEI and PAMSCU in the Philippines, ALAIME in Mexico, REDIME in virtual ways, and MTSE in Noarway as well as virtually). Finally, the committee also addressed issues such as nominations, Bylaws review, and the reports presented by the chairs of the three IAMSCU Strategic Committees, who were present at the meeting: Wesleyan Heritage in Education, Institutional Collaborations, and Finance and Sustainability. The IAMSCU Executive Committee members also discussed two future events: the IAMSCU Human Rights Network celebration of “International Human Rights Day” (December 10, 2024) and the IAMSCU next Board of Directors’ virtual meeting (March 18, 2025).
