The International Association of Methodist Schools, Colleges, and Universities (IAMSCU) is organized according to various levels of governance and accountability. Based on the democratic practices that are characteristic of the Wesleyan tradition, the highest authority in the association if the General Assembly with representatives from various parts of the world who meet in the IAMSCU Conference, generally held every three years. During the time between conferences, IAMSCU is led by its Board of Directors, which meets twice a year and has members who are leading educators representing the diversity of people, cultures, and institutions from five continents. To lead the association between the Board of Directors meetings, there is an Executive Committee that meets quarterly, serving as the liaison between the Board of Directors and IAMSCU’s executive leadership.
The IAMSCU Executive Committee will meet in early June to discuss and implement important decisions made by the Board of Directors on March 18. Among the topics included in the agenda are updates from the GBHEM General Secretary, the work of three Strategic Committees (Wesleyan Heritage in Education, Institutional Collaborations, and Finance and Sustainability), and the possibility of meeting in Africa in response to an invitation issued by the President of the Africa Association of Methodist Institutions of Higher Education (AAMIHE), Dr. Rosemary Nyarugwe. The Africa Association of Methodist Institutions of Higher Education (AAMIHE) and the Africa Association of United Methodist Theological Institutions (AAUMTI) are planning to have their joint meeting in Johannesburg, South Africa, on October 13-16, 2025, and invited the IAMSCU Board of Directors to join them, so they can observe the event, learn about Methodist education in Africa, and plan for a possible IAMSCU Conference on the African continent in the near future.
