IAMSCU has approved a new “Statement on Human Rights” as a way of supporting the promotion of human rights worldwide. The statement is relevant not only to IAMSCU member institutions – which are called to respect and protect the rights of students, staff, faculty, families, and communities related to the educational milieu – but also to faith communities and the society at large. It is a call for the need to uphold the values that guide IAMSCU and to exercise a prophetic voice in society. This statement is being publicized on “International Human Rights Day,” December 10th, 2025.
IAMSCU has been working consistently on promoting human rights since 2014. This continues to be a high priority for IAMSCU members. The IAMSCU Human Rights Network meets periodically and includes representatives from institutions such as Soochow University in Taipei (Taiwan), American University (USA), Universidad del Centro Latinoamericano (Argentina), Stockholm University College (Sweden), Duke University (USA), Ewha Woman’s University (South Korea), Aoyama Gakuin University (Japan), Reutlingen Theological School (Germany), and Isabella Thoburn College (India), among others. This coalition of research centers around the world addresses current challenges and opportunities for the promotion of human rights, peace, and justice.
