The Rev. Dr. Thomas Wolfe is the President of the International Association of Methodist Schools, Colleges, and Universities (IAMSCU), and he has been meeting with the leaders of the IAMSCU Strategic Plan committee. This committee includes three subcommittees which are reviewing IAMSCU’s practices, evaluating the impact of the pandemic worldwide, and proposing new paths for the association as it prepares its next Conference and General Assembly in 2023 as well as the next years in the life of the organization. The three subcommittees focus on the following themes: Wesleyan Heritage, led by The Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Kuan (USA) and Prof. Dr. Geordan Hammond (UK); Collaborations, led by The Rev. Dr. Paul Shew (Japan) and The Rev. Dr. Jamisse Taimo (Mozambique); and Funding Initiatives, led by Prof. Dr. Fayneese Miller (USA) and The Rev. Dr. Janet Unsworth (Ireland).
In conversation with these leaders, President Wolfe has emphasized important initiatives to prepare IAMSCU for the future. Under his leadership, the association is defining and implementing new priorities, rethinking the timeframe for development in a post-pandemic world, and securing resources for programs and initiatives involving students, faculty, staff, and communities related to Methodist education worldwide. To help support these processes, the three subcommittees have engaged other collaborators across the world and forming teams that include representatives from Africa, Asia Pacific, Europe and Eurasia, Latin America and the Caribbean, and North America. The General Board of Higher Education and Ministry (GBHEM) and its General Secretary, The Rev. Dr. Greg Bergquist, have been important partners in these conversations. The Strategic Plan Committee and its subcommittees will be reporting on their work to the IAMSCU Board of Directors, which will be meeting virtually on August 4, 2022.
