The Methodist University of Angola hosts a lecture series on “Journalism Techniques: A Tribute to Journalist Ismael Mateus” on December 6, 2024, in the institution’s Auditorium. This initiative being carried out by the Journalist Training Centre (CEFOJOR) at Angola’s Higher Education Institutions.

The event, which aims at providing students and beginners in Journalism with skills on important topics in the profession, featured a speech by university lecturer in the area of Communication, Adérito Quizunga, who provided those present with a comprehensive analysis of the history of Angolan journalism, also highlighting the undisputed figure of Ismael Mateus, who fought for the affirmation of Angolan journalists not only nationally but also internationally.
According to the rector of the Methodist University of Angola, Professor Tiago Caungo Mutombo, who gave the circumstantial words of welcome, “our thanks to the Minister of MINTTICS, Mário Oliveira, for choosing the Methodist University of Angola to host this event, which aims to deepen knowledge about the figure of Ismael Mateus, a reference in our journalism”. Next, Nuno Caldas, Secretary of State for Social Communication, “addressed greetings to the Management of the Methodist University of Angola, which promptly decided to make itself available to host the launch of this series of lectures. Angola feels the absence of Ismael Mateus, a provider for citizenship and a true comrade”. Among others, students consider that the activity is part of an important initiative by the Institution to promote lecture series that awaken interest in research, not only in matters related to Communication but also in other areas of knowledge. This is the case of Evanilda Damião, a 4th year student of Portuguese Language and Communication, who said “today’s lecture was very profound and different from what we have learned in the classroom. I liked the initiative and I hope to attend more events like this”.

The event is being attended by the Rector of the Methodist University of Angola, Professor Tiago Caungo Mutombo, the Secretary of State for Social Communication, Nuno Caldas, the general director of CEFOJOR, Ikuma Bamba, distinguished members of MINTTICS and CEFOJOR, journalists, teachers, students and other guests.
