The Joint IAMSCU, NASCUMC, and AUMTS Meeting held at Emory University involved more than 150 participants, Methodist educational leaders from around the globe. Leading representatives from IAMSCU joined many members of the National Association of Schools, Colleges, and Universities of the United Methodist Church (NASCUMC) and the Association of United Methodist Theological Schools (AUMTS) to discuss “The Future of Global Methodist Education.” Participants were welcome by the President of Emory University, Claire Sterk, and the Dean of Candler School of Theology, Jan Love. They opened the doors of their institution to Deans, Presidents, Bishops, and other educational leaders from five continents. The IAMSCU Board of Directors held its annual Business Meeting in conjunction with this event and its members were also able to attend the other activities. Participants from Argentina, Brazil, England, Japan, Korea, Mozambique, South Africa, and the United States gave a truly international dimension to the program.
One of the highlights of the Joint Meeting was the homage to The Rev. Dr. James T. Laney, President Emeritus of Emory University and former US Ambassador to South Korea. The participants gathered at the Carter Center in Atlanta on an evening dedicated to honor Jim Laney’s achievements and bestow him with the first Global Ethical Leadership Award. This award was presented jointly by IAMSCU, NASCUMC, and AUMTS. For more details, see https://www.gbhem.org/news/rev-dr-james-t-laney-receives-first-global-ethical-leadership-award/
