Regional Associations in Africa promote Lecture Series on Methodist Education

The Africa Association of Methodist Institutions of Higher Education (AAMIHE) is promoting a Seminar Series with various lectures on “Methodist Higher Education” in partnership with the Africa Association of United Methodist Theological Institutions (AAUMTI) and the support of the LEAD Hub Africa of the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry (GBHEM). The series includes monthly online events and focuses on different topics under the general theme of “Methodist Higher Education.” In June 2026, the theme was “Teachers/Professors in Innovative Teaching Methods” and on July 9th the Vice-Chancellor of Africa University (Zimbabwe), The Rev. Prof. Dr. Peter Mageto, speaks on the topic “Management of Higher Education Institutions.” The online lecture will happen at 15:00 (3:00 pm) South African Standard Time (SAST), which corresponds to 3:00 pm in Europe (CEST) and 9:00 am ET in the United States. This lecture series builds on the Joint AAMIHE-AAUMTI Conference which took place in South Africa in October 2025, during which the two associations were challenged to work together and increase their cooperation. To attend the lecture, join the Lecture Website on Zoom.

The Rev. Prof. Dr. Peter Mageto is the Vice-Chancellor (President) of Africa University, a Pan-African university established with the support of the United Methodist Church in 1988, but whose history goes back to 1898, when Bishop John Hartzell stood on the top of Mount Chiremba above Old Mutare and, looking down upon the valley, had a vision that hundreds of young Africans would be walking to school with books in their hands. This dream was fulfilled not only with the creation of a school, but also a university that now offers Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degrees in various fields, educating students from more than 30 African countries. For more information on Africa University, visit their website at https://africau.edu. Professor Mageto is the fifth Vice-Chancellor of Africa University. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Divinity from St Paul’s United Theological College in Kenya, and a Master’s in Theological Studies and Doctor of Philosophy degree from Garrett Theological Seminary in the United States. He has a long experience as a leading administrator (Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor) at universities in Africa, including Kenya, Uganda, and Zimbabwe. His publications focus on Ethics, Theology, Education, and Peace and Reconciliation.

The AAMIHE/AAUMTI Lecture Series will continue in the next months during 2026, and the dates and times for the next lectures have been set for the 9th of each month at 15:00 SAST. See the AAMIHE/AAUMTI Lecture Series Poster below.
