The IAMSCU President, Adriana Murriello, has reappointed the members of the IAMSCU Strategic Committee on Wesleyan Heritage and renewed their charge to lead the association in the task of reflecting and proposing initiatives that affirm the importance of Wesleyan values in education. She assembled a new team, including former and new members, representing the diversity of gifts and multiplicity of experiences in the worldwide contexts in which IAMSCU is present. The committee includes experts from Africa, Asia Pacific, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, and North America.
The members of the committee are Elvira Moises (Methodist University of Angola, Angola), Rowanne Marie (Seth Mokitimi Methodist Seminary, South Africa), Flor Miranda (Wesleyan College, Philippines), Glen O’Brien (Eva Burrows College, Australia), Gary Best (The New Room, England), Katy Thomas (Kingswood School, England), Erika Stalcup (Methodist e-Academy, Switzerland), Pablo Ferrer (Ward Institute, Argentina), Helmut Renders (Brazilian Society of Wesleyan Studies), Filipe Maia (Boston School of Theology, USA), and Edgardo Colon-Emeric (Duke Divinity School, USA).
The IAMSCU Strategic Committee on Wesleyan Heritage is being chaired by The Rev. Prof. Dr. Glen O’Brien, who is already at work scheduling meetings, planning new initiatives, and infusing the committee with a new critical perspective. O’Brien is Associate Professor and Research Coordinator at Eva Burrows College, has been a member of the Oxford Institute for Methodist Theological Studies (OIMTS) and the Methodist-Roman Catholic International Commission (MERCIC) – which was established jointly by the World Methodist Council (WMC) and the Vatican’s Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity (DPCU) and is currently led by The Rev. Prof. Dr. Edgardo Colon-Emeric and Archbishop Shane Mackinlay. O’Brien has published John Wesley’s Political World (London: Routledge, 2023) and Wesleyan-Holiness Churches in Australia: Hallelujah under the Southern Cross (London: Routledge, 2018) as well as edited Methodism in Australia: A History (Farnham, Surrey and Burlington, VT: Ashgate, 2015) with Hilary Carey, from the University of Bristol, and many articles in leading academic journals as well as technical reports and radio interviews.
