Conferences

IAMSCU Conferences

The association has held various international conferences, always in partnership with local institutions:

- - 1996: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
  - 1998: Bristol, England (celebrating the 250th anniversary Kingswood School).
  - 2001: Methodist College in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
  - 2005: Westminster School, in Marion, South Australia.
  - 2008: Universidad del Centro Latinoamericano (UCEL), in Rosario, Argentina.
  - 2011: Washington, DC, the United States, jointly with the National Association of Schools and Colleges of the United Methodist Church (NASCUMC) and activities at American University.
  - 2014: Hiroshima Jogakuin University in Hiroshima, Japan, on the theme “Peace Reconciliation and Human Rights.”
  - 2017: Puebla, Mexico, under the auspices of the Universidad Madero (UMAD), focusing on the theme “Tearing Down Walls – A Pathway to Peace, Healing and Humanity.”

Joint IAMSCU-MSN Conference – Transforming Lives (London-Bath-Bristol-Cambridge, UK, 2023)

IAMSCU-MSN Conference started in London 26 April 2023, hosted by Southlands College at the University of Roehampton. To see and download the program, see the Program Handbook. More than 150 participants attended the first day of the conference, focusing on the theme “Transforming Lives to Shape a Just Society: Opportunities for Methodist and Wesleyan Scholars.” The conference continued with activities at the New Room, in Bristol, which was built by John Wesley in 1739. The next location was Kingswood School, founded by John Wesley in 1748, which was celebrating its 275^th anniversary. The conference concluded at Wesley House in Cambridge, including a closing service at Great St Mary’s, The University Church, on 1 May 2023. Students from Methodist schools from around the world joined to sing the conference song “The World is My Parish” (see video).

IAMSCU International Meeting – Community, Conciliation, and Connectionalism: Methodist Education in Scandinavia and Around the World (Gothenburg, Sweden, 2024)

IAMSCU took advantage of two international events happening in Europe in August 2024 (Oxford Institute of Methodist Theological Studies and the World Methodist Conference) to promote a special academic meeting to reconnect and strengthen the IAMSCU community. This event aimed at expanding the discussion on “conciliation” and Indigenous Peoples initiated during the Joint IAMSCU-MSN conference in 2023. This event also reflected on the meaning of “intercultural connectionalism” and how this concept is being integrated into formation processes at educational institutions in the Wesleyan and Methodist traditions all over the world.
