On July 22-24, 2026, the Faculty of Religious Sciences at the University of the Latin American Educational Center (UCEL) in Rosario, Argentina, is promoting the 2nd Congress on Human Mobility in Panama City, Panama, under the theme “Faith, dignity, and justice on the move.” The congress is being convened in collaboration with universities, faith-based organizations, and international institutions, including IAMSCU, which is one of the sponsors of the event.
The congress aims at generating practical and sustainable responses to the ethical, pastoral, and social challenges associated with migration and displacement in the Latin American region. As challenges related to migrants, refugees, asylum-seekers, people suffering deportation, and many other forms of crossing borders under vulnerable situations, the Congress proposes the concept of “human mobility” as a broader term that captures these various experiences.
This event has the support of the Evangelical Methodist Church of Argentina and the Methodist Church of Panama as well as renowned Methodist school in that country, The Pan-American Institute (IPA). The Latin American Council of Methodist Churches (CIEMAL) and the World Council of Churches support the event also, as many faith-communities in Latin America and the Caribbean have experienced a dramatic increase in has migration and have decided to make this topic a priority in their ministry. The Congress is offering a space for academic reflection, interdisciplinary dialogue, and regional coordination to help churches, institutions, and organizations strengthen their responses as they develop programs on human mobility.
The event includes lectures, panels, thematic sessions, and networking opportunities to enable a collaborative exploration of new forms of mission, cooperation, and human rights advocacy in Latin America and the Caribbean. One of the expected outcomes of the Congress is the implementation of new teaching, research, and community service programs led by UCEL as an academic center leading in this area.
