The Board of Directors of the International Association of Methodist Schools, Colleges, and Universities (IAMSCU) periodically requests nominations for recipients of its various awards. The association is open to receiving suggestions and nominations for the following awards:
The Exemplary Prophetic Witness Award – This award was established to recognize individuals for courageous leadership in the cause of global social justice. It honors leaders whose leadership is worthy of emulation in speaking out in the public square for human rights and for the poor, the oppressed, the downtrodden, and the dispossessed, bravely speaking on behalf of those who cannot speak for themselves. The recipient of the award unstintingly demonstrates moral clarity and courageously, unflinchingly, speaks truth to power, undaunted by fear of personal danger or retribution. The recipient is undeterred from flying in the face of social convention for the sake of ethical principles and is known for political astuteness and for compassionate actions as well as for inspiring calls to action. This award will not be presented regularly but rather on an ad hoc basis when circumstances warrant.
The James T. Laney Global Ethical Leadership Award – This award was established “to recognize individuals for truly outstanding institutional leadership grounded in moral courage and integrity and formed by the highest ethical standards and commitment to them.”
The Almir de Souza Award for Excellence in International Scholarship – The purpose of this award is to “honor scholars and professionals with a distinguished career and demonstrated outstanding contributions to Methodist education and other areas of academic endeavor promoted at IAMSCU member institutions.” It is “intended to promote research, teaching, and administrative activities with an international component worthy of emulation.”

The Ken Yamada Distinguished Leadership Award (The Flame of Excellence) – This special award was established by IAMSCU and NASCUMC (now NAAMSCU) to recognize individuals for outstanding involvement in and support of the activities of either or both organizations. It acknowledges truly singular and visionary leadership in either organization and the exhibition of those unique and compelling qualities of leadership, both tangible and intangible, which inspire others to follow in bold new directions. The recipient will be creative, dynamic, courageous, and willing to take risks for the sake of improving the organization and the church.
To present nominations, please submit the name, title, and institution of the nominee, a brief justification for the nomination, and the curriculum vitae of the person being nominated. The awardees will be selected by the IAMSCU Board of Directors. For more information, please contact IAMSCU at iamscu@iamscu.org
